ABOUT THIS SERVICE
The valuation date depends on what the estate needs
After the death of a family member, an executor or heir may need to understand what a home was worth on the date of death. That is a retrospective appraisal: the opinion of value addresses a date in the past, using information relevant to that date.
A current estate appraisal addresses value as of a present effective date. The appropriate date and intended use should be discussed with the attorney, accountant, or tax professional involved.
